Aphasia WA is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2006 to support people living with aphasia in Western Australia. Our members comprise of health professionals, trained volunteers, speech pathologists, members of the community, and most importantly, people with aphasia and their families.
Aphasia WA has established several support and conversation groups across Perth and regional WA, with current groups running in North Fremantle, Palmyra, Armadale, Joondalup, Inglewood, Floreat, South Guildford and Geraldton for one to two-hour sessions on a weekly basis. Our groups offer a welcoming and supportive space for people to practise their talking with trained volunteers and other members with aphasia. People are encouraged to socialise over a cup of tea, and practise their conversation with the guidance of trained volunteers who can assist the conversation to flow with effective communication strategies. The groups are free to attend and can be accessed whilst receiving therapy or post-therapy.
